Mike, RadioActive Radios yeah, i can vouch for him too. here's a typical scope pattern of one of many of his superwhackpacked Connex 3300HP's that i have reworked. here's what it looks like after mike is done chopping it up. http://www.firecommunications.com/raradios/wackpack2.jpg here's the same radio again after the crap has been removed, cut traces repaired, missing oem components replaced, amc circuit restored and volting lines to both driver and finals removed and rerouted followed by a thorough alignment. http://www.firecommunications.com/raradios/wackpackafterfix.jpg if you look closely at the before and after scope displays the transmitter power output levels are exactly identical. the analog and digital wattmeters show an increase when amc is disabled and the collector rails are volted, the scope doesn't. that's because there is no power increase. the scope sees 27mhz. and the wattmeters can't discriminate between power being developed at the fundamental and imd, spurious and harmonic energy occurring above and below the fundamental. here's the bench checklist: superwHACKpack exposed: Connex 3300HP: 1. removed 1N914 on the underside of the board in the the 2SC754 pass regulator circuit. 2. removed volting for driver and both finals, restored the collector rail to oem spec. 3. removed 560 pf on the bottom of the circuit board at C166. 4. removed what was left of the 2SC945 amc transistor at TR32 and replaced. 5. restored open etch between the 2SC945 and the 4558D. 6. resoldered broken connections at both ends of L31. 7. re-compressed both inductors at L31 and L52. (all stretched out) 8. re-adjust L33 for tank resonance. 9. added 8200 pf between pin 4 and ground to stabilize talkback and prevent excessive audio feedback at advanced mic gain settings. (galaxy approved modification) 10. rf and dc board grounds bonded. 11. adj. squelch threshhold. 12. adj. fm deviation. 13. adj. all carrier and amc levels. 14. adj. tcve (xmit and rcve) frequency. (several hundreds of hertz high) 15. rcvr. checked and thoroughly aligned 16. adj. noise blanker circuitry. 17. 1st and 2nd receiver mixers checked and adj. as necessary 18. 10.240 check and set 19. s meter calibrated for 50 uv. at S9 20. remove 2SB754 and inspect, ceramic insulator bone dry, both sides. applied thin layer of silicone heat sink compound to both sides of insulator and re-installed, tightened and excess SHSC removed. 21. all pc board screws checked and tightened. 22. SO-239 antenna connector loose, tightened.
